What is electrical conditioning?

Power conditioning is the set of techniques and technologies used to improve the quality and stability of a system's electrical supply. It can include devices for protection against overvoltages, undervoltages, and overcurrents, as well as filters to eliminate electromagnetic interference. Electrical conditioning can also involve regulation techniques to ensure a reliable and stable power supply. Electrical conditioning is important to guarantee the safety and performance of equipment for industrial applications.

AGIR

Developed under the DGA's RAPID program, in partnership with SIAME, its main objective was to achieve significant peak power levels regulated over long durations.

Traditional transformer-based technologies are indeed not very efficient over long periods and they lead to very bulky systems. The uniqueness of the AGIR project lay in the idea that, by optimizing converters for a pulsed mode and eliminating average power constraints, we could achieve high peak power levels and, by combining them, further multiply the output power.

This objective was achieved with a peak power of 10 MW, obtained by combining 12 converters.

Developed under the DGA's RAPID program, in partnership with SIAME, its main objective was to create a DC-DC converter, this time focusing on very high average power rather than just peak power.

Thermal issues become paramount in this context. The idea is to meet the needs for rapid charging of all types of electric vehicles. A high-voltage variant allows for the transmission of electrical power between two distant points while minimizing losses.

The originality of the approach we proposed to meet this need is based on the use of a coreless toroidal transformer, thus avoiding saturation at high currents. (This innovative technology led to the filing of two patents.) Since it is coreless, there is space available to incorporate a cooling circuit. The toroidal geometry also helps confine the magnetic field within the torus, thereby eliminating the need for magnetic shielding that would otherwise be necessary to comply with regulations.
